Champion in me

Champion in Me, a customized arts and sports events for Children living with HIV, organized by us on 30th November and 1st  of December 2013. Around 470 children from 9 centres in Karnataka, one centre from Tamilnadu and two each children representative from 27 districts of Karnataka participated in it. Moreover we also had about 100 staff and volunteers accompanying these children from different centres.

The arts competitions were held on the first day. The competitions were held for different age groups which were conducive for their talents and tastes. There were individual competitions and group competitions. The main arts competitions were singing, dancing, Painting, drawing, skit and Rangoli. The arts competitions began with the inauguration ceremony. Coincidentally, we also had the inauguration of blood donation camp as part of the  World Aids Day organized by Snehadaan during the same time. The arts day was inaugurated by Mrs. Sheela, a renowned Classical dancer. Fr. Mathew Perumpil, Director, Snehagram, delivered the World Aids Day message.

Various arts competitions followed the inaugural ceremonies. We had accomplished artists like, Mrs Anisha, and Suma two famous Karnatic vocalist, and Vaibhav Neelghar, a kannada movie artist and various others to judge the various events.

The arts competition came to an end at 5.30  pm with the valedictory function. Mr. Prabhananda M, Delivery Manager of HCL Technologies was the chief guest during the valedictory function. All the winners of the arts competitions received prizes during the valedictory function.

Champion in Me 5 K Run 2012

1st  December 2013 dawn witnessed a huge gathering of socially committed people at Snehadaan campus. They were gathered to pledge their solidarity with children living with HIV and run to make the society commit for their future. People began to throng the grounds from 6.30 am.  The run was flagged off by, Ms. Marjiam, Mayor of Netherland, along with two of our children. Before the run was flagged off, Ms. Reeth Abraham an athlete of international fame read out the World AIDS day pledge and all the participants repeated the pledge after her and Mrs. Chanda, the gym instructor of Contours gym guided the warm up session for all the runners.

The event was supported by Bangalore School Sports Foundation, Runners High, Decathlon and Champion Group and many others.

Champion In me Sports day for the Children living with HIV

 Following the run, ‘’Champion in me’’ sports meet for children living with HIV was held at Samascan Grounds, Ambedkar Nagar.  The event was inaugurated by Ms. Marijam, Mayor of Netherlands in the presence of many people from corporate sector and film and fashion industry.  Mr Abhaychandra, honourable sports minister of Karnataka was one of the many distinguished guest who came to see the event.

In the morning various track events for different age groups of children from various centres were held. Children participated in the competitions with sportive spirit. The events were conducted by Mr. Elvis Joseph, Ms. Reeth Abraham  and his team from Bangalore Schools Sports Foundation.

In the afternoon, Football for boys and Handball for girls were held. The football games were organized by Valentine Chikka Okoli the  football coach of BSSF and his team.

In the Evening the valedictory function was conducted and prizes were distributed. Mr. Jude Felix former Indian Hockey Captain and Olympian was the chief guest during the occasion. Fr. Vince Mathew, director of Sneha Care Home expressed words of gratitude to those who worked behind this mega event. 

Starry Night

Starry Night is a Christmas programme organized by Sneha Care Home during Christmas season. Conceptually it is a Christmas celebration with the stars of Sneha Care Home. The principal aim of this programme is to bring together the well wishers, friends, benefactors and people who are closely associated with Sneha Care Home for a common Christmas celebration with the children and staff of Sneha Care Home. This year it was held on the 15th of December from 6.45 pm.

The Programme

The programme was held at the lawn before pastoral centre. The whole area was decorated with lights and stars, and a crib was made.

People who were invited began to come form 6 pm and they were ushered in by Fr. Biju Mathew, Fr. Vince and the brothers. The cultural programmes began around 6.45 pm. The guests were welcomed by Fr. Biju Mathew. The programmes were compeered by Mrs, Ivy Thomas. Mr. J Alexander a former IAS officer and MLA of Karnataka was the chief guest on the occasion. Mr. James Alukkas and Mr. Vaibhav a famous Kannada cine artist were the other two important people who joined the celebrations. Fr. Bay Ellickal delivered the keynote address and Fr. Vince Mathew made a presentation about the activities of Sneha Charitable Trust. The weather was very pleasant though there was a slight dew fall. A hearth was set around to warm the people. The children of Sneha Care home and Snehagram put up cultural programmes for one hour. Besides we had guest performances by eminent violinist Mr. Manoj George and children of St. Sebastian’s parish Mathikere. The guests enjoyed the talents of children and appreciated them.

The cultural programme was followed by sumptuous dinner. The ‘La Casa’ restaurant in Bangalore came forward on the occasion to treat the guests with delicious Pizza and Pasta. Besides it, there were varieties of other dishes as well.  The guests enjoyed all the dishes and it was a time for the people to meet and interact with their friends and share the good tidings of Christmas.

About 450 people from outside attended the programme besides our children and staff. All the guests left around 9.30 pm. The volunteers distributed Sneha Care Home Calendar and a memento to all the guests as they went home after the programme.
