INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING

The individual work with the child is done when a child is referred by a teacher or any other staff member or the child himself/herself wants to talk with the counsellor.

GROUP COUNSELLING

Children identified with behavioural issues (prior observations done, workshops conducted, etc) are segregated based on their age group and behavioral issue. Around 8-10 children are selected of the same age group with similar behavioral issue.

WORKSHOPS

The children referred and also the children who were observed having behavioural issues are divided into groups. Then the workshops on different topics like anger management, team building, bed-wetting, etc. are conducted for different groups.

DISCLOSURE

Disclosure of the HIV status to a child is their right to information about their illness Disclosure is usually a process and not a one-time event. Disclosure is conducted for children above 8

The process

  • pre assessment of children’s knowledge,
  • categorization of children based on the pre assessment
  • Disclosure by a multidisciplinary team
  • Post disclosure evaluation and individual counselling to address the fear and apprehensions of children.

LIFE SKILL EDUCATION

Using the life skill modules developed by UNICEF and INSA India the department imparts Life Skill Education through child friendly participatory approach which uses active learning methods including games, role plays, debates, brainstorming, drama, story telling, group learning, case studies and poster making.

STRENGTHS AND DIFFICULTIES QUESTIONNAIRE: (SDQ)

Strengths and Difficulties questionnaire is used to assess the behaviour of our children. We do it with the help of teachers, care givers and other staff once every six months. All versions of the SDQ ask about some positive and others negative.  These are divided between 5 scales:

1) Emotional Symptoms

 2) Conduct Problems

3) Hyperactivity/Inattention

4) Peer Relationship Problems

5) Prosocial Behaviour

DOCUMENTATION

The department collects all the information about the child using a structured questionnaire and document them in a structured format wherein the details about the child’s family background, health history, social history, education, etc in an individual file.
